Did a run in Kobe today. ITB was buzzing on both sides, but no major problems.

Grrrr, knees still not great

I'm throwing everything but the kitchen sink at my knees, this week I had two hours' massage and acupuncture on Monday, then Thursday night I had another 2 hours - physio then acupuncture.

I went for a run tonight and the knees are bad. It's frustrating, but I know this is a long-term problem.

Now, it might sound crazy, but last Sunday my wife and I went for a 6 hour mountain climb. I was totally prepared to give up at any point and turn back, or find the nearest bus, but the knees were fine. In fact, for two days afterward they gave me no trouble at all.

But my total for this week is that walk and one 35 minute run. Plus cycling to work and back each day - but that's just 15 minutes each way.

Regarding the treatment I had Thursday. I saw clubmate Russ. His diagnosis was absolutely spot on. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the biomechanics of the knee and what he taught and showed me. But I remain a skeptic about acupuncture. I felt little or no discernable improvement or change except some slight soreness where two of the needles had been. I was told I'm atypical in two respects (my stomach temperature and muscular reaction to the needles - ie, they cramp and reject them) so perhaps acupuncture is just not for me. I will persevere with it for a little longer, but I fear I will be disappointed.

A good way to check your friends' IQ

A very basic and silly hoax is doing the rounds of Facebook at the moment, and I've found it interesting to see who forwards it on to me - a good way of checking who has commonsense and who doesn't. I'm pleased to say only three friends have fallen for it.

So if you get a Facebook mail titled any of the following, please don't hit forward, just stop and think why Facebook would want fewer members, why the message is full of typos, and why it's only circulating via Super Wall (hardly the most effective method to reach every Facebook user - only 19 percent have it).

“Attention all Facebook membeRs”
“Attention all Facebook membeRs.”

Rant over.

Tokyo Bicycle Film Festival

On display in the lobby of the film festival building was a bicycle engraved all over by the uber-talented artist Ko5. You can see his work here:

Another Ko5 work of art, on a bike outside.

Now for the amazing array of bikes parked out front of the theatre...

This next bike, the black one behind the blue Eimei, is absolutely amazing. A Zipp carbon frame, carbon saddle, Look headstem, the list goes on. No expense has been spared. Must be a brilliant bike to ride.

More bikes in Tokyo

Here's a random collection of bikes and bits taken on my cell phone - the SD card was getting full, so I figured it was time to do something with the pics...

Great frame - a great Panasonic racing frame built by Katsu Matsumoto in Osaka.

A feel a bit uneasy about the classic Nagasawa frame being dressed up like this - like putting go-faster stripes on a Bentley.

A Bianchi getting a hard time on the streets of Tokyo...

Now I'm not in the habit of taking photos of drink bottles discarded in public toilets, and sorry for the pic quality...but check out the name - PLACENTA - Now doesn't that suddenly make you feel thirsty!
